Louws Truss is seeking a skilled Engineering Technician to join our Maintenance team at our Burlington location. The Engineering Technician must bring a lot of enthusiasm, passion and excitement for what we do at Louws Truss. Have the ability to interface with a number of cross-functional teams and represent the fabrication and engineering function as needed. Role The Engineering Technician will be responsible supporting maintenance and production related projects through the design and fabrication projects as well as driving projects for long-term improvements in safety, efficiency, and capacity of the company. The position will also contribute to root cause analysis, tooling design, tooling fabrication, machine upgrades, and documentation support. This role will interface closely with both external vendors and internal departments, and other facilities. Background in robotics and automation will get priority attention. This position may work the day shift 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday with occasional Saturdays. Responsibilities: Primary Role: Engineering and Special Projects
Provide fabrication support to a variety of ongoing projects in multiple facilities
Working from blueprints, sketches, or computer-aided design (CAD) files.
Computing and verifying dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of workpieces and test completed jigs and prototypes to ensure that they meet specifications.
Designing of new equipment and retrofitting upgrades to existing equipment
Involvement in process improvement and equipment efficiency projects
Secondary Role: Troubleshooting and Repair
Working with our Maintenance and Production teams to understand the root cause of issues that are affecting equipment or utility performance.
Providing recommendations and initiating projects to prevent the recurrence of quality issues or machine breakdowns.
Support Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance, Overall Equipment Effectiveness Projects
Other Roles: Production Support
Determining the root cause of quality issues and working cross-functionally to propose and implement solutions.
Generating and assessing proposals for process improvement including changes in procedures, equipment, and tools.
Analyzing production data to identify issues and propose improvements.
Experience and Qualifications: Required:
2-3 Years Fabrication Experience with Examples of Past Projects
2-3 years of experience in an industrial plant setting. Including maintenance, facility and production exposure
3-5 years’ experience with automated equipment, CNC
Desired:
Demonstrated ability to solve problems while understanding risks to resources and deadlines
Training or experience in Robotics
Proficiency in CAD OR Ability to Learn Rhino CAD
Strong mechanical measurement skills, including both handheld tools and analytical systems.
Ability to use and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints and schematics.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Enthusiasm for teamwork across multiple functions of the organization.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Degrees/Certificates – Preferred
Applied Science Associates in Engineering Degree
Manufacturing Technology Certificate
Physical requirements:
Must be able to lift and/ or move up to 50 lbs.
Be able to work in a dusty loud environment
Must tolerate heights up to 35 ft
Frequently required to stand, walk, push, reach, stoop, crouch and climb ladders
May work outdoors during winter and summer months
Will help support the other plant as necessary, travel will be required periodically.
